1] Does the Black PCB board use only 18 ceramic disc capacitors as compared to the 21 on the old board?
2] Can I use 0 ohm resistors in place of 1 ohm resistors. Also, only 2 of these are marked in the picture for the black board but I think I need to place 5 of these resistors as shown for the OLD PCB. Is this correct?

Quick answers, yes only 18 capacitors, the links can be 1 or 0 ohm resistors or bits of wire. Only the 2 shown in the picture are needed. Build it exactly as shown and it will work.
